FLASHBACK FRIDAY: 2004

Marge Safinia and Joseph Boyle from Merge Media produced the inspirational documentary, “Seeds”, based on the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine.

“Seeds” profiles ten teenagers from the Seeds of Peace International Camp. The camp features adolescents gathered from all over the world, sometimes from combating nations, who attempt to form relationships with their perceived enemies and better understand their place in the world.

The entire documentary was shot in video and we did the color correction (with the FILMLOOK® process). “Seeds” is one of those films that gives hope that the world can live in friendship despite the differences between us all. Here is a link to the trailer and see why Judy Woodruff of CNN, says - “…a spectacular film…truly impressive.”

MEMORABLE MONDAY:   Happy Earth Day
On this day in 1970 Earth Day was created by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin.  ”The objective was to get a nationwide demonstration of concern for the environment so large that it would shake the political establishment out of its lethargy,” Senator Nelson said, “and, finally, force this issue permanently onto the national political agenda.”  In the same year on July the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) was established by special executive order to regulate and enforce national pollution legislation.
On April 22, 1990, the 20th anniversary of Earth Day, more than 200 million people in 141 countries participated in Earth Day celebrations.
The United Nations officially celebrates it on the vernal equinox, which usually occurs about March 21.

FREAKY FRIDAY: Humberstone and LaNoriaIn 1872, the town was founded as a saltpeter mine and business was booming until the business declined and then collapsed in 1958. The town of Humberstone and it’s surrounding towns were abandoned by 1960. Treatment of workers in both towns bordered on slavery, and now the towns are abandoned. It is rumored that the dead of the La Noria cemetery rise at night and walk around the town, and ghostly images frequently show up in photographs in Humberstone. These towns are so terrifying, the residents of nearby Iquique refuse to enter them. The former residents never left, and can be seen walking around, and children have been heard playing. The cemetery of La Noria, regardless of whether its occupants actually walk at night, contains opened graves where the bodies are fully exposed, leaving those who come across the bodies wondering why.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY, 2003KCET produced “Kingdom of David,” a comprehensive documentary chronicling the beginnings of Judaism. The documentary was shot in video then we did the color correction in conjunction with the FILMLOOK® process. ”Kingdom of David” was shot in the deserts of Israel, Tunisia and the United States, incorporating 16mm film to re-create events surrounding Moses, Jesus and David, punctuated with historian and scholar interview bites.Mitch Wilson was the cinematographer on this documentary. Mitch makes each frame look like a piece of art. We love his work and we especially love when he is here working with us. As stated on his IMDb “he is known for his cinematic eloquence, impressionistic historical re-creations and striking juxtaposition of photojournalism and visual metaphor.”“Kingdom of David”, is a four-hour documentary and is available on Amazon for purchase.
